The star has donated the full amount of his twenty-five thousand pound award prize money to the Music Venues Trust, which operates to save the Britain's independent music venues.

Fender was awarded the award on mid-October as his third album his work was chosen as the best record of the previous year.

He has decided to donate the funds to the MVT, in appreciation of the crucial part local spots fulfilled in his initial steps.

"I personally would not have achieved what I am doing today if it weren't for all the performances I performed around the region, and beyond, when I was just getting going," stated Sam Fender. "These venues are renowned, but they are facing challenges."

Beginning in 2023, more than 150 of these locations have shut down – roughly 16% of the entire UK sector.

Over the past year, major artists such as Pulp, Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all aided the MVT in its efforts to help venues survive, by applying a minor surcharge to their admission fees, which supports smaller concert halls.

Fender also joined in, collecting in excess of £100,000 on his live tour to assist 38 local spots across Britain.

The money assisted venues that were dealing with imminent closure due to challenges caused by floods, fire incidents and bereavements, as well as licensing issues, conflicts and noise complaints.

Some locations received monetary aid in modernizing infrastructure and technical equipment that positively impacted artists and fans.

"The notion that funds from shows in big venues helps the independent spots, where it all starts for performers like me, is just common sense," Fender has stated.

Fender is not the first artist to contribute his Mercury Prize winnings to worthy causes.

Back when the band received the award in the year 1996 for their record their work, lead singer the singer declared that the band would contribute their winnings to the organization War Child.

In 2002, rapper and singer she split her bounty between several organizations, such as the NSPCC and a Sickle Cell organization.

"Additionally, I donated a thousand pounds to Highgate Newtown, to their classes, because I did gymnastics when I was growing up and they lacked better apparatus," the artist shared with outlets.

Two years ago, Ezra Collective donated their winnings to the local youth club that nurtured their act, as well as other independent music bodies.

And the 1994 recipients M People contributed their winnings to a multiple sclerosis charity after a friend was diagnosed the condition.

"Receiving the award was sufficient," said artist the singer. "The prize was the bonus but we could do without the extra, because we had the honor. So our victory affected another person's life."

Last week, the trust announced it had saved two grassroots venues in that region, by bringing them into local control.

The first in Southampton and The Croft in Bristol were acquired under the Own Our Venues scheme, which is supported by a national body and supporters who buy "ownership units" in the buildings.
